Samuel Glazer, MD, a psychiatrist nationally known for his work with addicted executives and professionals, began his private practice in 1998. Dr Glazer has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2015, and was recently featured in New York Magazine’s Best Doctors issue. He is a Board Certified Psychiatrist and Addiction Psychiatrist, and is a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has been devoted to his work as a caring physician for patients with Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Addiction and Alcoholism. A psychotherapy oriented psychiatrist, Dr. Glazer believes in only a limited and careful use of medication in the treatment of psychiatric symptoms. Most of his work is centered around the practice of psychotherapy combined with medications when needed.
In his work as an Addiction Psychiatrist, Dr. Glazer observed a lack of outpatient resources for executives, high functioning people and their families. People with addiction and alcoholism can be dynamic, intelligent and multidimensional people. Many lead very responsible, and successful lives, yet are plagued by the guilt, shame and compounding negative consequences of their secret addiction. A huge barrier to entry for treatment of this population is the fear of being exposed in a large treatment center, clinic, or twelve- step meeting. In his private psychiatric practice, Dr. Glazer provides a safe, confidential place in order to begin the process of recovery with evidence based medical and psychotherapeutic treatment for addiction and alcoholism.
Dr. Glazer earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1993. His postgraduate training included a psychiatric residency at NYU Langone Health. After receiving the Resident of the Year award for his leadership as a Chief Resident Psychiatrist at NYU Langone Health, Dr. Glazer completed a two-year fellowship in the Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse at NYU. During his fellowship, Dr. Glazer began his research into office-based treatment and published peer-reviewed literature on Network Therapy treatment for cocaine abuse.
Dr. Glazer has presented his work on addicted professionals to the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatrists and to the Medical Society of the State of New York. He has given lectures on topics varying from abuse of pain medication to eating disorders at various academic institutions. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Langone Health, where he volunteers time to teach medical students and psychiatry residents.
Dr. Glazer has been featured in national media. He has appeared on CBS, MSNBC has been quoted in magazines, consulted for Cinemax, NBC Nightly News, MTV News and other media organizations regarding topics ranging from marijuana dependence to prescription drug abuse.
