Dr. Josie Schwartz is a clinical psychologist in New York who specializes in working with a diverse mix of children, teens, and adults. She provides a warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental environment designed to help clients navigate anxiety, process trauma, address chemical dependency, and manage difficult life transitions. Dr. Schwartz believes that a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation of all meaningful psychological work, and she approaches every individual and family with deep empathy, patience, and curiosity.

Dr. Schwartz practices from an integrated framework that places relational, attachment-informed, and psychodynamic perspectives at the center of her work. By looking closely at how an individual’s unique history and relationships shape their present experiences, she helps clients unpack deep-seated patterns while seamlessly weaving in active, evidence-based tools to reduce day-to-day distress. In her clinical work, she integrates core behavioral strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), such as cognitive restructuring, distress tolerance, and actionable coping mechanisms to target symptoms of anxiety, depression, substance use, and compulsive behaviors. Additionally, Dr. Schwartz completed her 200-hour yoga teacher certification in 2021. When appropriate, she integrates somatic awareness and mindfulness techniques into her clinical work, offering valuable tools to help clients navigate cravings, regulate difficult emotions, and feel more grounded.

Dr. Schwartz has extensive clinical experience across a wide range of demanding settings. She completed intensive foundational training in child, adolescent, and family therapies in acute-care inpatient units, crisis evaluation centers, and outpatient hospital clinics, where she regularly co-led a weekly DBT skills group focused on emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. Additionally, she completed an advanced postdoctoral fellowship at a multidisciplinary community mental health clinic specializing in systemic family interventions, trauma-informed care, and neurodevelopmental vulnerabilities. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at SUNY Downstate, where she supervises psychiatry fellows in the outpatient clinic.
